FAA Investigates Gun-Toting Drone Created by Teen

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating after a video of a drone shooting a hand gun created by a local teen in Clinton, Connecticut was posted to YouTube.

CLINTON, Conn. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating after a video of a drone shooting a hand gun created by a local teen in Clinton, Connecticut was posted to YouTube.

Austin Haughwout, the teen who posted the video demonstrates the drone in action in a wooded area.

Many think that military officials are the only ones who can legal operate drones, yet Clinton police say the video of the gun-toting drone doesn't appear to violate any state laws.

"Unfortunately, it's just an aspect of technology and like all technology it's purpose is in the hands of the person that's applying it," said Bill Peidra, a CEO of a Manchester based company called, Flying Robots.

Peidra is also a drone enthusiast, a part of his business is creating drones that deliver flotation devices to people in danger of drowning.

Peidra says that he's concerned the YouTube video may have ramifications for his entire industry.

"It's shocking and I really hope it doesn't inhibit the continued development of drones for good purposes," said Peidra.

Haughwout has also been seen in a prior YouTube video where he was allegedly attacked by a woman. The video surfaced last year.

Haughwout's father says that he believes his son did nothing wrong.

Connecticut lawyer and drone advocate Peter Sachs disagrees. "I think they might have something legal to worry about."

Sachs says there are countless ways that drones could be useful, but he adds that using one as a remote controlled weapon is not one of them.

"Drones should be used for good, not for evil, "said Sachs
