LINCOLN, Nebraska — The Lincoln City Council has approved a church's plans for a 95-foot-tall radio tower but also ordered that six trees be planted to screen it from view.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1edTMra ) that the council on Monday OK'd a special permit for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The council told church officials that it must plant three Colorado blue spruces and three red sunset maples adjacent to the tower, designed as a tall cross, under an agreement with the Briarhurst West Neighborhood Association. Neighbors had complained the tower would be an eyesore and hurt property values unless it were well-screened.
The church will use the tower to broadcast its FM radio signal to residents within about 3½ miles. The station's call letters will be KNNA.
