Nebraska guard will transfer from women's basketball team

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Nebraska sophomore guard Chandler Smith plans to transfer from the Husker women's basketball team.

Nebraska coach Connie Yori said in a statement released Tuesday that Smith, a 6-foot guard from Brewster, Washington, wanted to be closer to home.

Yori called Smith "a good person and a good player," adding she was disappointed in her decision but wished her the best.

Smith played in 18 games in her freshman season, with one start. She was hampered by a foot injury that limited her playing time early in the season.

She averaged 1.8 points and 1.9 rebounds a game.

Smith was a two-time Washington Class 1A player of the year.
